Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to your most pressing questions about Restoration Counseling.
What is counseling like?
Counseling is a collaborative relationship between you and the counselor. The two of you will work together to identify your goals and find the best ways to support and guide you as you work toward those goals. While counseling can sometimes feel uncomfortable, your counselor will do their best to create a safe environment for you to explore the uncomfortable.
How often do I have to attend?
While this is totally your choice, we recommend starting with weekly sessions to build a strong relationship with your counselor. Then based on your needs, you and your counselor will decide how often you should attend.
How long are sessions?
Sessions will typically last 55 minutes, but they could be as short as 30 minutes.
Can I do virtual sessions?
Absolutely! However, we recommend you contact your insurance to make sure virtual sessions are covered. We only use HIPAA compliant platforms for virtual sessions.
Is counseling confidential?
Yes, however your insurance company may require notes at times, but you would be informed of that. Counseling records are covered under the Privacy Act and will not be shared unless you sign a release of information form.
Does my insurance cover counseling?
Most of the time, yes. However we always recommend you call your insurance first to check your benefits. Check out Insurance & Fees for more information.
What if I don’t feel like the counselor is a good fit for me?
First, we recommend talking to your counselor about your needs. What is working or isn’t working for you? If you find the fit still isn’t working, that’s ok. Your counselor will offer a referral to another counselor who may be a better fit.
